Katrin Ribbe. *1974 in Bünde/ Westfalen (DE). Lives and works in Hannover (DE)
ARTIST STATEMENT
Questions on contemporary photography, its coming-to-life in virtual and physical space and its underlying poetic and political narratives are at the core of Katrin's artistic practice. – Originally trained as a photographer at Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Katrin has been working as a portrait and editorial photographer nationally as well as internationally. Her portraiture has work won her several awards. From 2009-19 Katrin Ribbe joined the artistic directorial team at the Stately Theatre in Hanover. Her close collaboration with the in-house graphic design team has has been repeatedly awarded and proved influential over many years. – As an artist Katrin is mainly working with photography, film, object and installation. Some of her works can be found in the collection of Städtische Sammlungen Salzgitter and in private collections. – In 2014 Katrin was co-founder of the longterm multi-media reenactment project Aufstand aus der Küche (=Uprising from within the Kitchen) with fellow artists Mareike Hantschel, Lucie Ortmann, Demian Wohler. Aufstand aus der Küche deals with questions of kitchen politics and gender identity. The collaborative, participative project is meandering somewhere between salon, workshop and exhibition and is establishing an ever-growing archive of artworks from different fields within the fine arts. – Katrin is an Associate Lecturer in Photography at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover (DE). – Katrin Ribbe likes to work in different contexts, in collaborative environments, cross-media and in long-term projects of hopefully surprising outcome.
